The Southern California Empires topped the Edmonton Drillers, 6-4, in Semi-Pro Baseball Circuit action at Empires Stadium. The standout performance belonged to Southern California pitcher and Lower Allen, Pennsylvania, native Joe Ivie. Jim Grant earned the save, his 1st. The win has Southern California at 2-0.

The Drillers had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Empires going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old right fielder Wing-kit Chen came to the plate. Chen hit a 2-run double on a 2-2 fastball from Edmonton hurler Keith Feldman. It was Chen's 1st double of the year.

"Enjoyed this one," Ivie told the Southern California Times. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
