Carreras Hits 2 home runs in Mavericks Win
|
With right fielder Tony Carreras leading the charge, the Houston Mavericks defeated the Detroit Motors, 5-3, at The Garage. Carreras, who leads the PBC with a 1.255 OPS, went 3-4 with 2 home runs and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Carlos Ventura came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. Jack Murphy picked up the save for Houston, his 8th of the year.
Carreras had a timely hit for Houston in the top of the eighth. With Detroit trailing 3-2, he turned a 1-2 fastball into a 2-run home run. It was his 20th home run of the season, making it 4-3, Houston.
"We're all about heart and hustle on this team. That's what wins ballgames," Carreras told the Houston Gazette.
The West Division-leading Mavericks have a record of 31-19.
