The Denver Cutthroats got a strong performance from pitcher Jose Giraldo, who stymied the Houston offense en route to a win, 5-2, at Mavericks Ballpark. Giraldo went 6 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. His record improves to 2-7. The win has Denver at 16-27.

Denver used the timely hitting of Craig Wells to capture the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cutthroats on top, 5-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but he made it count.

"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Denver manager Joe Peters.
