Houston took on Los Angeles in front of a lively crowd.

Starting pitcher Ricardo Mercado pitched well enough to help the Houston Mavericks beat the Los Angeles Knights, 8-5. Houston reliever Josh Rouse picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Edgar Ozuna was saddled with the loss. Jack Murphy earned the save for Houston, his 5th.

Houston used a clutch hit from Ray Jackson to get the win. The first baseman drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mavericks ahead, 7-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"We maximized our offense today," said Houston skipper Kevin Read. "That makes everyone's life easier."

The win for the Mavericks lifted their record to 15-12.
