Goldeyes Win at Newark, 5-2
|
Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Newark Eagles were eager to watch Aaron Cox square off against C.J. Knight of the visiting Winnipeg Goldeyes. In the end, the Goldeyes won the game, 5-2, with C.J. Knight leading the way. Knight, now 1-0, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 8, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. Justin Pike collected his 1st save.
The tension was thick in the bottom of the sixth inning. With runners on 1st and 2nd and Newark trailing 5-2, C.J. Knight had to get a big out. On a 2-2 fastball, he retired Jesus Juarez, who grounded out.
