Ortiz Blanks Detroit, 3-0 Saturday, August 11th , 2001 "Good pitching beats good hitting" is an old baseball adage. Well, good pitching also beats bad hitting. Jose Ortiz of the San Francisco Peanuts proved the point at Detroit Stadium today, holding the Detroit Motors to 4 hits in a complete game shutout victory. "Ortiz made us look real bad today," Motors manager Dick Granade said in a postgame interview. "He was outstanding. He was down in the zone with all his pitches. Everything was sinking." Ortiz had 13 strikeouts and gave up 4 walks as the Peanuts took the 3-0 win.
