The Philadelphia Keystones got a superb performance from pitcher Jon Person, but the Houston Mavericks still won the game, 5-4. Person threw 5.1 innings allowing 2 runs. The winner in relief was Josh Rouse. He is now 1-0. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. Jack Murphy got the save, the 1st for him this season.

Houston took a 5-4 lead on Matt Haynes's 5th double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Haynes hit in the top of the ninth, left Philadelphia pitcher Erik Nester visibly frustrated.

"We did enough to win," said Haynes.

The Keystones fall to 4-7 and continue their rocky start to the 2001 season.
