Ricardo Mercado never let the Keystones get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Mavericks to a win, 3-1. The winning pitcher was Mercado, now 1-2. He tossed 7 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 5 and fanning 6. David Martinez got the save, the 2nd for him this season.

Houston used a timely hit from Cody Eleam to get the win. The catcher stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to put the Mavericks ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"It was a solid team effort," said Eleam after the game.

The Keystones drop to 4-6 and continue their inconsistent start to the 2001 season.
