Blackhawks Top Philadelphia, 2-1
|
Matthew Steele pitched well enough to win, but it was not to be. The Philadelphia Keystones, despite Steele's fine outing, dropped a 2-1 decision to the Chicago Blackhawks at Philadelphia Grounds. The win was credited to Andy Taylor in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Matthew Steele took the loss. Edwin Quevedo earned the save, his 1st.
The outcome might have been different for Chicago, had it not been for Angel Arzola, the slugging first baseman . Arzola stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put Chicago up, 2-1. For the game, he was 2 for 3, including 1 double and 1 single.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Chicago manager Andrew Galvin.
The loss makes Philadelphia 2-2.
