The Boston Shamrocks did just enough to sneak past the St. Louis Lions, 2-1, at Shamrocks Ballpark. Boston pitcher Chris Nester, in particular, had a standout performance. Nester, the winner, moves to 1-0. He threw 5 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 3 walks. St. Louis falls to 2-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, Boston left fielder Jason Buckner had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and two out, Buckner stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 2-1, Boston. For the game, he went 2-4 with 2 singles.
"I tell our guys all the time, 'Every pitch is the right pitch if you put it in the right place, you believe in it and have conviction,'" Boston manager Chris Ragan said.
