The Denver Cutthroats and Houston Mavericks provided some drama for the home crowd.

The Houston Mavericks did just enough to sneak past the Denver Cutthroats, 4-3, at Cutthroats Ballpark. Houston pitcher Ricardo Mercado, in particular, had a standout performance. Mercado went 5.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 3, and struck out 1. His record improves to 6-4. Dave Kaminski closed the game out for Houston, earning his 10th save.

Dave Kershner, the 25-year old right fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Kershner contributed a run-scoring triple in the top of the sixth inning to put Houston up, 4-2.

"It was sure nice to get the win but there's a lot of baseball left," Kershner after the game.

Houston now has a 3-game win streak.
