Blues Prevail, 5-3, Over Houston
|
The New York City Blues overcame a fine performance by Houston second baseman Matthew Hinton to defeat the Mavericks, 5-3, at Blues Field. Hinton went 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs. Luis Perez, now 1-0, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2 innings. The Blues move to 15-17 with the win, while the Mavericks drop to 19-13.
The game was at a stalemate until center fielder Esteban Villagomez came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Houston pitcher Josh Rouse, he hit a 3-0 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting New York City on top, 4-2.
"Winning is always a team effort," Villagomez said after the game.
